Overview

This is one of the premier flying sites in the southeastern US and is the home site of Southern Skies. A P3 rating is required to fly the site. P2 pilots must be supervised by at least a P3.

You must be a member of the Buzzards Club to fly at Moore, yearly dues are $75. Visiting pilots will be able to purchase a 7-day pass for $25 or contribute with a donation.

This site is known for nice glass-offs in the evening. There is some thermal flying but the site is best known for its ridge soaring. The ridge is about 2 miles long. There is a bowl to the right of launch. Be careful not to get too far back in the bowl in high winds. If the soaring is good, you can cross the bowl to get to the southwest end of the ridge. There is a spine to the left of launch - turn before you get there.

Launch

The launch is a grassy portion of an apple orchard which is three gliders wide with plenty of parking in the back. The launch has a mellow slope from horizontal to vertical and top landing is possible.

Landing

Straight out from launch, but a long glide. If you go much below launch, it is time to head to the LZ.
